This poem is a bit deep, but it was written from the heart and it may resonate with some of you when you really tried to help someone you cared for deeply and they chose to believe the fabrications that were going around instead of you, and you know you are right, time will prove that. So instead they shot the messenger, you!
SHOOT THE MESSENGER
I walk the corridors of my mind
And climb the stairs of a similar kind
I check each void, each space, each room
I search for answers in the gloom
I'll never know what attracted you to me
A higher power is privy to answers be
When questioned in my lowest ebb
You know, those early morn hours you lie in bed
All I see is a smile and a shake of head
I'm not to know I'm told instead
I question my beliefs almost every day
And yet I believe more deeply with each passing day
I wonder in sadness and yet in an awesome way
Oh to be me, I hear you say
But would you really if only you knew
What lies beyond beliefs beyond that sky of blue
The heavy chains of responsibility that bind and gag
Tongues must be kept silenced, no cats let out the bag
For when you try to forewarn
And try to protect others you love from harm
An old saying, 'shoot the messenger' comes to mind
And all you are doing is bestowing love and trying to be kind
