My Special one (for George)

I never did get to hold you in my arms
I think of you still though the years have passed
And when the nights grow long
It serves to remind me when you had to go
I always knew my special on
For special you were
Too pure in spirit to need to come
You had no lessons that needed taught
But you chose me for what you wanted to feel
I was told, warned you could never be
As the days and weeks passed I hoped
I hoped those who decide such things forget
As winter deepens and Christmas comes to pass
That Christmas would have been magical
And then they said its time
I screamed in my head, I could not say
Who would believe I knew
I just had to wait, such a long hour
One hour to say goodbye my little one
And then it happened distraught I screamed
Nothing could be done and yet I knew
Three long days I grabbed on to you
For I couldn't let you go
And then they shook their heads not viable
Not viable, such a cold word for my only one
I sobbed for days and nights inconsolable
And yet I knew which made you all the more precious
So as winter deepens and Christmas comes to pass
I know you will be here with me
Strange I know you have my humour
And the jokes we've played
Who would understand how it feels to know
I have you, yet I do not
You have taught me so much my darling
And I understand why it had to be
So pure you were in spirit there was no need
No need for you to come but you chose me
And I am truly blessed

Festive season in my home town

Festive season in my home town

Every year for a few weeks we have a sort of winter festival in the centre of Edinburgh below the castle where an outdoor ice rink is constructed for the festive season and various other attractions like the German market etc. Its very pretty at night but its so cold. We also have a huge outdoor hogmanay party where we are deluged by tourists so it gets very busy.

I daydream of the day when we will meet

As I have known you so many times before

That first tentative look
That first shy smile
